Subject: Visit to discus possible medical device projects
Dear Doctor John Doe,
We are a team of Medical Device Engineering (MDE) and Medical Students at UCSD, working collaboratively to improve patient care through device development. Our goal is to meet with practicing clinicians who have identified areas in their clinical world that might benefit from a new or improved biomedical device. With that in mind, we would like to meet with you in order to discuss the possibilities as they apply to your area of practice.
The MDE students are enrolled in a 2 year engineering master program. During the second year, each student engages in the process of developing of a new medical device. Medical students interested in this area have been invited to join this process.
At this stage we want to learn what areas of your practice need improvement. It is fine if you do not have a specific solution in mind. We simply want to meet to talk and possibly shadow you during your practice. We are looking for good project areas and mentors to guide us through our project.
Please let us know if there are some convenient times we could meet.
Thank you,
Jane Smith, MDE Student
Bob Black, Medical Student
